At a time when so many of our nation’s vulnerable senior patients need critical access to breakthrough medical technologies, why wouldn’t we be doing all we can to help them, particularly when FDA–the gold standard for device safety and effectiveness–has approved them?
Let me be clear: Without this MCIT rule, which has bipartisan support, senior patients may have no other effective options to save and improve their lives. That’s how serious this is.
Only in Washington would restricting patient access to FDA-approved technologies be viewed as smart policy. That’s why @SeemaCMS’s leadership at @CMSGov matters—because patients matter, because saving lives matters.
Every child of a Medicare beneficiary wants their parent to have access to the best technology to help save and improve their lives. To do otherwise would be a travesty.
Let’s not fall back to the old bureaucratic ways of Washington. This is not about numbers on a spreadsheet. This is about people. It’s about lives. It’s about patients. And it’s about helping our seniors!
