I sealed a school today.

It was a small private school in a remote village half an hour away from Bhera

When the Headmaster saw us coming, he panicked and told the students to hide or run away

I did seal the school, but tried doing it differently. Here’s what I did:
I told all the kids to go back to class and carry-on their study.

I then went to every class and asked them if they were being good students...

... I then heard their “sabaq” of the day from them 😂😂😂
No child should be scared of authorities. An AC is there to help and protect, not scare!

We then talked about #Covid19 + their responsibility to keep their family safe, explaining to them why staying at home was important

Lastly, I asked if they wanted school to close/stay open
What surprised me today was the dedication of these kids to study

In every class I asked them if they wanted “chutti” - go home and relax!

When I was in school, we always wanted more and more holidays but in this village خان محمد والا the kids didn’t want the school to close!
In every class I asked them: who wants to go home / go for a vacation

In every class they said: we want to stay and study

I thought they’d jump in joy when I said “Chutti ho gayi” but they hugged their books & said study is imp for them / helps fulfil their parents’ dreams
How #COVID has changed 🌍 !
The same people who campaigned for greater enrolment are now trying to #CloseTheSchoolsNow
😔
As an advocate for education, sending these kids home in a place where #distancelearning is impossible, felt terrible and sick
Ngl, #coronavirus is going to set us back many years in terms of education

Let’s hope the #COVIDSecondWave dies soon and the #CovidVaccine works. We cannot afford the costs of this pandemic
Dear students who celebrated closing of their alma mater:

See how sad these kids are to leave school.
Feel ashamed!
Education is a luxury in this country and those who get it are lucky. Learn this from those who have to struggle to get to school! Value Your education!
Today we are closing
But with this pledge and this عزم that InshaAllah we will emerge from this pandemic stronger and more committed to our values of quality education for all.

May Allah keep us all safe in these trying times. Ameen!
