“Defund the Police” was immediately latched onto & spun to fear-monger a captive [white] audience, many of whom in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, were for the first time, paying close enough attention to see the fallacy of the usual boogeyman (looting & rioting.) /1
And the misinformation campaign that triggered the initial pushback continues.

Misconstruing election results as the Senate hangs in the balance, weaponizes fear on the left in an effort to suppress black Americans, activists, & progressives advocating for Defund. /2
Why? In addition to being foundationally racist, our systems are also very corrupt.

Police Unions & related interests hold significant political capital within both parties.

A product of this is our government’s failure to address police injustices to the black community. /3
Like so much else, here we find motivation in money & power.

The federal defunding of police would inherently cause a shift in where & how police unions & related interests channel money & influence.

That’s not lost on their beneficiaries, including Democrats. /4
If we are ever to move forward, we must act to dismantle the corrupt channels of influence that perpetuate structural wealth inequity.

That starts with calling bullshit on the counter narrative to defund the police & any weaponization of fear.

And then we follow the money. /5
