For decades now, "Reform the police" hasn't done shit, really; but folks in power don't think that's a reason to throw it out. Funny how that works 🙃
"What if people hear 'reform the police' and they think you'll just be satisfied with more Black cops?" <-- a concern I am much more worried about than pandering to racist fears that all hell will break loose if the Negros get out of line
That "fear" many Americans feel of a world w/o police repression is a fear that has been produced, nurtured, and cultivated by the very same politicians who tell us now that we aren't allowed to dream of a better world because others fear it too much. Some "hope"! Some "change"!
What about the fear of living under police occupation? Notice how this rhetoric doesn't even allow that fear to appear as part of the conversation, to appear as an emotion to be treated as valid.
The indifference this country expresses toward its most vulnerable is one thing. What's worse, is its insistence on gaslighting the oppressed out of feeling indignation at their own oppression. We're allowed to want this whole institution of policing to be done away with.
And we prefer not to conceal our aims.
