Trump is so screwed no matter what happens.
Hypothetically, if he pardons himself and it is inexplicably allowed to have the magical god-like power of complete absolution of all past crimes, then he can no longer invoke personal 5th amendment protection...
...which means he then *has to tell investigators everything* about all the crimes he has been involved in.

And do you know why he's multi-screwed in that scenario?
Because:

1. he becomes 100% liability to everyone who has been connected to his decades of criminal activity.
and

2. Donald Trump does not tell the truth. He has willingly lied so quickly and regularly for so many years that he has become a walking example of lying to government investigators and the embodiment of perjury itself.
He *will* lie again and again in the future. He will do it directly to investigators. He will do it under oath.
He will because that's what he does, and because he believes there are criminal entities who could inflict a fate worse than prison time upon him. (in the same way Paul Manafort believes that to be true and thus blatantly lied to the FBI even while "cooperating")
