Fun fact, early December appears to be the best time for some Meteor activity. https://www.amsmeteors.org/2020/11/meteor-activity-outlook-for-november-28-december-4-2020/
You've likely seen that NWS Binghamton tweeted about the sightings. A meteorologist there says the org put out that tweet because they were getting A LOT of calls. He also says he can't really speak about it because he specializes in weather, not space! https://twitter.com/NWSBinghamton/status/1334203551149563904?s=20
A Fireball Specialist at the American Meteor Society (coolest title ever) says the boom was a sonic boom. He says the reports of the boom indicate that the meteor entered the atmosphere around Central New York. Also, the meteor was probably the size of a small car!
There's a possibility that pieces of the meteor have landed in our area, as it likely broke apart when it hit the atmosphere.
AMS is looking for any video of the fireball! Considering it was cloudy in CNY, the videos will likely be from CA, PA, even D.C.
