ICYMI, I posted my 300th (!!) SVU story last night. And now, I shall use this as a jumping off point to talk about why I love Barisi fandom. https://twitter.com/PerpetualGayle/status/1334008300531191808
First and foremost, that is NOT my 300th Barisi fic. It's my 300th SVU fic. I came into the fandom for Barisi but it's the fact that I enjoy multishipping and other people enjoy it as well that has gotten me to story 300.
That being said, a big part of the encouragment COMES from Barisi shippers. Who, even if they monoship, encourage me to have fun and fuck about with whatever ridiculous pairing I've invented out of nothing. It's always been a deeply welcoming place to just enjoy creating.
Let's be real: There are LARGE parts of SVU fandom I am never, ever gonna get near enough to sight through a telescope. And there have absolutely been times in Barisi fandom where shit's gone down.
But, every fandom has its down moments. What has struck me over and over is how Barisi fandom has centered on taking care of each other as best we can.
It feels like there's always been a focus on supporting one another and refusing to let bullies gain or keep a foothold. It's a group who says, "Do no harm, but take no shit," and strives to meet that.
And, through that, I've met the other parts of SVU fandom I am very happy to know, even in pairings I had never previously considered (Barson). There are so many good people around me on twitter and in real life thanks to this fandom, and I'm grateful.
With all of that being said, Elliot Stabler can still choke.
