Site C is a megadam currently under construction on the Peace River in BC. Despite violations of treat rights, irreparable environmental damage, the destruction of BC’s best agricultural land, and enormous economic loss, construction of the dam continues.
Recent updates show that there are major geotechnical issues with the project that could cause instability and a potentially catastrophic collapse of the dam.
The Site C dam is built on shale soils which are highly unstable and the reason this same project was rejected by BC Hydro in the 1950s.
Now, BC Hydro is ignoring significant findings of instability and trying to press onwards with the project. As the project continues to tack on billions in construction costs, many engineers are doubting the feasibility of this project.
