So last year I was inspired by Brother Dave @DavidSteensma to provide a set of pro tips on how to maximize your @ASH_hematology experience. As a virtual meeting, a little harder, but here goes... THREAD
1. Review the oral presentations, and put the ones you really NEED to see on your schedule to watch live and see the Q and A.
2. Make a second list of talks to watch at other/more convenient times. You can register to have access to content for 30-90 days->what better way to spend your winter break of no travel/no get togethers than to drink from a hematology firehose.
3. Go to the general sessions, in real time if scheduling allows->Plenary, Late breaking, award lectures, best of ASH.
4. Get to know the posters in your specific areas, and own them. they are the hidden jewels of the meeting.
5. Make plans with friends in distant places; have a coffee, a drink or some Jiffy-Pop.
6. Family and sleep>>>seeing every single session in the meeting.
7. Get fresh air. Go for a walk or a run or a bike ride. Same rule as in person ASH->need to change scenery for mental health.
8. Email 2 senior people in the field you have not met and ask to zoom with them for career advice after ASH. If you are said senior person, accept the invitation!
9. Go to at least 2 talks in areas you know nothing about.
10. Order in take out of your favorite food you would normally eat at ASH, and have your usual dinner companions do the same.
