Unsurprisingly, @Google decides to send another product to the graveyard. This time, it's @GooglePoly
Poly was an attempt to discover and download 3D objects from a single source.
Why did Poly fail when @Apple is making big moves in AR?

The original vision: "With Poly, our mission is to organize the world's 3D information and make it universally accessible and useful" - @claybavor
When it launched in 2017, Poly was a straightforward service - get your 3D models ready for VR & AR

Over time, Poly just got confusing:
3D Objects: Downloadable, API access
Blocks & Tiltbrush 3D objects: Non-downloadable, limited API access
Virtual Tours: Not 3D, non-downloadable, primitive features
Poly editor: Use this, or Swirl, or @modelviewer?

What made Poly even more difficult to use was the low-poly nature of uploads. It simply did not find a fit with serious use cases across businesses, eCommerce or even AA/AAA games.
The low-poly aesthetic was a good start, but @GooglePoly never went beyond it.

The Poly API was actually useful for specific use cases in @unity3d and @UnrealEngine
However, it had a very limited selection of 3D objects to explore from.
Poly died a death due to its own misgivings, but @GoogleARVR is launching newer features on ARCore & 3D search.

"What if Google builds your idea?" is a cliche question.
Companies like @Sketchfab and founders like @albn are examples of putting your head down and focusing on your customers.
The most important part is focus, that helps you out-execute the biggies.

It's a poor time to kill Google Poly. It comes as @Apple launches Lidar on every major device, and 3D scanning is becoming table stakes across smartphones.
3D's days are early, but it's the future
@GoogleARVR needs a play in it, but the answer was not Poly
