I spoke with Dr. Joseph De Koninck, professor emeritus a the UOttawa.
De Koninck says he's all for eliminating the biannual time change that has a detrimental effect on our biological clocks, but he says policy makers should make the move to Standard Time not Daylight Time. https://twitter.com/silasjvbrown/status/1333793005384318981

De Koninck says that more light in the evening often means people stay up later and sleep less. He also says that morning light is extremely important to our biological clocks that dictate most of our body's functions.
De Koninck agreed that it's a classic case of human beings desiring something that is actually not particularly good for them and thinks many of us wouldn't be happy with our decision once we experience the first December under Daylight Time.
For example: On December 21, 2020 the sun will rise in Fredericton at 8:05 am.
Under Daylight Time, the sun wouldn't rise until 9:05 am.

I went looking for some more extreme examples and in Edmonton a Daylight Time sunrise on December 21 would be at almost 10 am.
Premier Higgs says the idea of ditching the time change is certainly worth looking at and would be willing to move on that, in conjunction with the rest of the Maritime provinces, in the near future.
As for DT versus ST, he says that should be studied before making a decision.

I've reached out to the other Maritime premiers and so far only McNeil's office has gotten back.
A spokesperson notes that McNeil will be stepping down in February and says this will be an issue for the next premier of Nova Scotia to address.
