one of the weirdest parts of my job is that after I publish a tell-all about a woke college, I get messages from faculty who tell me "I wish I could speak out, but I am alone." I'll get several messages like this, & then help connect these ppl. It's like soviet dissident cells

oddest case was a cdn govt agency. they'd have official conference calls that were mostly land acknowledgments & pronoun checks. some members started a parallel whatsapp group to mock the others. eventually, more ppl joined the whatsapp group, until most of the ppl were on it...

but even then, the official conference calls continued, even as most of the participants were on parallel whatsapp chats mocking the proceedings in real time. to my knowledge, this farce continues. no one dares end the official calls, lest a single hardliner call the others out

someone in the comment thread below suggest these people are "cowards." they're not cowards. they have families & mortgages, and they can lose their jobs for slipping up even once. they exist in a climate of distrust & fear, & we've all seen how quickly ppl get fed to the wolves

more people are speaking out, and I applaud that. but no one should be a hero. get *help* to blow the story up. there are people like me who do this for a living. and there are legal resources available as well

one more thing: When dissidents find each other, 1st contact is typically non-verbal, & mediated thru body language/eye contact (think winston & Julia in 1984). The pandemic prevents this. All is formal, literal, on the record, incriminating), allowing commissars to block dissent

my sense is that when people do get back to offices, there's going to be a huge backlash vs. the ideological enforcers who've been hectoring everyone on zoom calls, because the silent majority will be able to self-organize in all the usual human ways. it's going to be .... rough
