Similar to my work on Wilson, Stanton’s religious identity wasn’t fixed or static. While Wilson’s affiliation didn’t change, Stanton’s certainly did. And she openly experimented with different religious experiences (Eg revivalism, spiritualism), which led to her critiques
I continue to be fascinated by the ways these figures—in their own ways—speak to the powerful cultural relationships between patriarchy, White Christianity, white supremacy and US-American ideas of “freedom” “equality” and “democracy”
