Was John Brown a martyr to the abolitionist cause, or a psychotic murderer?🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m leaning towards the latter.
As righteous as his cause was, we can’t just slaughter people who we disagree with, can we?
It seems like we are taught to disregard his negatives these days in light of his service to abolition.
Interestingly, Ethan Hawke plays John Brown in a Showtime series this year! I wonder if that portrayal is sympathetic?🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️ Good Lord Bird was the name.
Anyone seen this?🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️
Anyways, pulling people from their homes in the middle of the night and hacking them to death with broadswords isn’t a good look. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pottawatomie_massacre
I’m going to say he definitely should have been hanged for his crimes. 👨🏻‍⚖️👨🏻‍⚖️👨🏻‍⚖️
Anyways, if you are interested, this podcast spends four hours discussing John Brown in good detail. 🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️✅
Have you heard about the history of the Secret Six who funded John Brown? 🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Six
In 1859, Allan Pinkerton attended the secret meetings held by John Brown and Frederick Douglass in Chicago along with abolitionists John Jones and Henry O. Wagoner. At those meetings, Jones, Wagoner, and Pinkerton helped purchase clothes and supplies for Brown.
Jones' wife, Mary, guessed that the supplies included the suit Brown was hanged in after the failure of John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry in November 1859.🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻‍♂️
John Brown and his men attempted to arm their rebellion with pikes. Literally pikes. 🕵🏻‍♂️
Frederick Douglass travelled to London to avoid being prosecuted for his role in Harper’s Ferry.
Don’t be a jerk, Thoreau.
