My thoughts on BBC Hard Talk and @MIshaqDar50 interview:

PMLN’s strategy to go ahead with this seems to be to internationalize the militablishment’s meddling in Pak governance affairs. I have long supported and called for both PPP and PMLN to use international platforms >
to keep the pressure on and build international consensus against this new strategy of Pak army to govern from the shadows. After all, there has to be some extrinsic pressure in the absence of intrinsic dynamics where there is little to no checks-and-balances on the military. >
However, BBC’s Hard Talk has a specific format. That format innately makes the guest appear on the defensive. Only seasoned public speakers have the requisite body language and delivery style to tackle it. The fact is that PMLN/PPP need to generate international chatter >
against the military’s influence in matters of governance in Pakistan. Was BBC’s Hard Talk the best platform to do so? My view is, yes, but with the best candidate. @MaryamNSharif or even @betterpakistan (from the old guard) have that skill. In any event the strategy is correct >
PMLN needs to ramp up the narrative in the international media. They must go to American shows. 60 minutes and GPS, e.g. Go with preparation and with those who can handle this format. The pressure must be relentless and the case must be made without apologetics. >
Tell them in clear, categorical terms why you can’t go back. No apologetics. They know it and want to hear the truth from you on a public forum. Also, clearly layout the Fauji endgame and let the international audience know why this is bad. Explain the fauji game plan. >
That they are looking for a reset and to make amendments that will increase their powers in the system - something that PMLN/PPP have undone post-Musharraf to some extent. If you are going to enter the ring, no point in holding back punches. <end>
