@ivanabacik opening up the @labour debate on their Bill, Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Naturalisation of Minors Born in Ireland) Bill 2018, with a background to why this Bill is so important and timely. @labouryouth @immigrationIRL @masi_asylum
We are particularly concerned with how this Bill would impact the lives of undocumented children born in the State, who have no rights to residency or citizenship. Children are growing up fast, we need to make sure they are safe and secure in the only home they know and love.
"This bill would be a dream come true for my daughter", a testimonial from an undocumented parent, it would mean she could "live without fear and mean she has a bright future." #undocIrl ❤️
Delighted to hear the support from @lichamber for this Bill and rightly pointing to the lobbying of Irish politicians across the waters for the rights of undocumented Irish in other countries. #undocIrl
@HMcEntee offering her support to this Bill, which is very welcome news indeed. The commitment in the Programme for Government will see a scheme in the new year, which would seek to regularise many undocumented people and their dependents. #undocIrl
@HMcEntee says the "proposed bill is very well intended". She states she is fully committed to working with @ivanabacik on the progression of this Bill.
@marie_sherlock calls it a 'life sentence' growing up in the shadows, growing up undocumented. She says that these children and their families cannot wait. Acknowledging children and young people that came to Ireland, need just as much security as those born here. #undocIrl
@LorrCliff reminds the Seanad of the contribution that undocumented essential workers have made across a wide range of sectors. #undocIrl Workers are here, they have families, there are so many undocumented children waiting for safety and security in their home.
@hoeyannie Delighted to hear you speak about access to 3rd level education for undocumented young people. Young people shouldn't have to run their own petitions to stay in country they know as home. #undocIrl
@Love1solidarity Your words have lifted the spirits of young activists from YPP tuning in today. The impact of having to hide your identify and your own experience working with undocumented young people with us a few years ago. #undocIrl #youthactivism
@Love1solidarity quotes Young, Paperless &Powerful "I will never get back my childhood and that time spent living in fear". #undocIrl
@LNBDublin calling for full restoration of citizenship post 2004 referendum.
@RebeccaMoy , a long time supporter of the Justice for the Undocumented campaign, reminding the Seanad that it's time that we right the wrong of the 2004 and ensure that all children born in the State have rights and security in their home. #undocIrl
@SenLynnRuane spoke about her direct support to families with precarious immigration status. #undocIrl It's very clear that there is a sense of urgency across the Seanad this afternoon to address this situation. Undocumented children and their families can't wait!
