2) Broadly speaking (and apologies that this thread is about to get super wonky), I think there are three camps of people interpreting the Court's recent decision on worship services and COVID-19.
3) The first are people (like me and Michael Dorf) who are familiar with the doctrinal shifts that religious conservatives have been pushing for for years, and recognize that the Court's recent decision implements those shifts.
4) The second camp, frankly, are people who appear unfamiliar with this broader context, and are reading the Court's recent decision in isolation. I confess that I've had difficulty hiding my annoyance with this second camp lately.
5) The third camp, which Dorf does a good job of responding to in his piece, are people who support the doctrinal shifts favored by religious conservatives, but who are also trying to downplay the radicalism of those shifts.
