One of my all-time favorites, opening with a great hook: "Just as we were all getting back into the mainland domestic groove, somebody started in with dragons and crop blights from across the North Sea..."
Why read it today? Because of the game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla... https://twitter.com/mdbell79/status/1334161089492185088

If you've read "Everything Ravage, Everything Burned," you likely remember the infamous (and very gory) blood eagle scene...
Well. Late in one AC:V quest line, a brutish Viking companion of mine suggested we take an injured king we’d been seeking revenge on to a special location, and I knew before we got there what was going to happen, thanks to Tower. And sure enough, I was right.
Thankfully my character felt the same disgusted way about it that Tower’s protagonist did. A line not in the Granta version, but included in the Anchor: “He don’t need to mess with that. A damn tedious waste of time.”
Anyway! I'd be curious to know if the @assassinscreed team first found the blood eagle in the Tower story, during Viking-related research. I know it appears in the sagas too, but everyone I know who knows about it knows because of Wells Tower.
