Regarding “defund the police” & other “snappy” slogans:

It’s OK to lose some ppl, especially if they’re holding power and standing in our way and if we want to take it away from them to crate a better world than the one they’ve created.
Fredrick Douglas said it best 👇🏾. “Yes we can” demands nothing; it hovers between uncritical pabulum and a stultifying affirmation that incrementalism & a positive attitude will improve our lives withOUT demand or confrontation.
“Defund the Police” is a demand.

“Black Lives Matter” is a demand.

Demands aren’t focus group tested.

Demand aren’t requests.

Demands are a call to take power withOUT concession
It’s disappointing that so many Dems—even and maybe especially Black Dems—extol the virtues of the civil rights movement of the mid-twentieth century and yet seem to loathe the words, actions & politics of those fighting for civil rights in the twenty-first
To the issue of policing in general, it is fueled by Dems & Rs alike. BLM exploded on Obama’s watch. The killings happen in cities & states stacked by Dems.

Obama is defending the status quo & trying to stymy a powerful idea that the masses are curious about & open to.
If we want a world w/o police killings & a world without AIDS & a world without COVID, we MUST defund the police, abandon the unfair economic structure they uphold & demand a world w different economic priorities and different spiritual values.
Ppl saying “defund the police” want to defund the police.

Ppl saying “don’t say ‘defund the police”!” don’t want to defund the police.

As @prisonculture says, these groups DO NOT AGREE.

The differing ideas are in conflict!

& as @sarahschulman3 says, CONFLICT IS NOT ABUSE.
Sloganeering can’t paper over that the defund/don’t defund crowds DISAGREE.

Let’s not hoodwink each other about what we all want—let’s openly state what we want and be in conflict about our different ideas.
