1/4 My talk at #MaRSImpactWeek about inclusive design is streaming live now! This talk is important because every decision we make during product development influences who is going to be able to not only access a product but use it effectively. @MaRSDD
2/4 The concept of designing for the "average user" has resulted in designing products that don't work for everyone. We need to stop trying to find commonalities and instead focus on our differences - difference in needs, abilities, and experience.
3/4 Designing for users that have completely different needs results in products that are adaptable. The way we can do this is by recognizing lived-experience as a skillset.
4/4 We focus too much on how a researcher's, designer's, developer's expertise needs to centre on a set of tools, programs, and methods. But lived-experience cannot be learned and we need to start building teams based on that.
