Put together a few thoughts over on @LinkedIn about getting ready for big shifts next year. Coming at you from the intersection of marketing + communications + politics. Check it out

1. The convenience culture will win. It’s more than a shift to online shopping, consumer habits have been broken. Patience worn thin by pandemic obstacles. Make it easy for customers to say “yes” in 2021.
2. Take control of your brand. If you’ve started direct-to-consumer sales for first time in 2020, seize the opportunity in 2021 to really own the customer experience.
3. The government is running the economy, embrace digital to get their attention. Small government changes and regulations made and ruined companies this year. The reality is your story, your advocates, your opposition are all taking shape online — own it.
4. Getting noticed is harder than ever. Everyone glued to their phones but paying attention to nothing. So much clutter. You need creative that connects, is relevant + punches through. Take time to get your ideas right.
5. Who are your super fans? Super charge them! Strategists call this “owned” media or channels. But it’s more than that. Do you have anybody in your corner when the going gets tough. Build the online community today as insurance.
6. It’s all about corporate reputation. This is something @tweetsfromdon has been all over and he’s
. Weak corporate reputations left companies vulnerable in 2020. Strong ones give you licence to operate, especially in regulated sectors during tough times. Strengthen yours.

Could go on and on. I’m not an “everything has changed” post #covid19 person, but it’s been hella disruptive. It’s accelerated change. What did I miss?
