1. Good Morning Fam! @emigre80 @firedup79 @NYCanegirl @Utleyjacobite @DianeToucan @RabbiJill @pithypacky @mrspc48 @TheePitts @MrTamhas @therealwombat1 @notdecraw @TheSteveTheCat @bobadoc1 @tulipglory Have you had your coffee yet b/c it's time for Post-Election Hot Takes
. Let's

2. get started.
Many people complained about Biden's age, I saw it as a blessing Given that he's 78, I don't think he's likely to run again so he has a level of freedom most presidents don't have. Given his posture, I also think he's doing things to put Kamala in the best

3. possible position in 2024. I heard some pundits say this morning that Biden will be reluctant to go after trump, so he won't be held accountable. This is half right. I don't think Biden will get bogged down in the muck of going after trump, but I think he WILL allow his DOJ to
4. do so. He has the perfect response if he is criticized for this. "No one is above the law and presidents don't interfere with the justice department. He campaigned on justice reform and holding trump accountable must & will be part of that. For those that say "we need to move
5. forward and heal, the response should (and I hope will)be, that people that are victims, as in this case the American people, cannot begin to heal until they receive justice. Biden's comms team is capable of delivering that message.
6.
GA run-off. What a mess. Let's be clear, the GOP candidates need a coalition of traditional GOP voters, trump voters & Independents to win. The Dem voters need high Dem turnout in the urban & suburban counties and to cut into Independents. As you know, the GOP is at war

7. with itself down there and I love it. I think the Dem candidates have a damn good shot of winning this thing. If I were the GOP I'd worry about trump going down there on the 5th.

Complaints about Biden calling for unity. These are probably going to grow over the coming

8. weeks and I think people may be misunderstanding both the strategy and the goal of this rhetoric. First, let's analyze aspects of Biden's campaign that were huge yet get little or no attention. During the primaries, Biden lost Iowa, NH, and Nevada, after leading when he
9. entered the race. He had virtually NO money. Bernie & Warren were cleaning up. yet you know what didn't happen (which was extraordinary) no one left the campaign. Historically when this happens there is a mass exodus of staff. Now, Biden was smart and didn't hire a ton of
10. of people, nevertheless, you didn't have many high profile staffers abandoning him. Did you ever ask yourself why? SC was the firewall, Why? The advantage that Biden had was an understanding of the Dem party and its recent history. Neither Bernie, Warren, Pete or Klobuchar
11. the basic understanding that a Dem candidate WILL NOT win the WH without substantial Black support in key states. Period. Now, whether this is true or not, I don't know, but it is the conventional wisdom whether anyone admits it to themselves or not. The double victories of
12. Bill Clinton and Obama support this belief. Since Jesse Jackson ran in the 80s, the SC primary has been viewed as the Black primary. Biden's team knew its history. He knew that support for all the other candidates would crater if he won big there. Why? Because SC was the
13 canary in the coalmine of the Black vote. You know what happened. I view the Unity pledge in the same way. Unity does not equal capitulation, but too many people think it does. By preaching Unity Biden steals the high road from the GOP. He can then frame any obstinance on
13. their part as divisiveness. The country is not unlike a family. While there may be members that wish to cause chaos or harm, they are usually viewed in a negative light. How many people of waring divorced parents crave peace? I'd say most. By appearing to be the reasonable
14. one, Biden will get the support of the majority of the ppl. He also has the bully-pulpit to speak directly to the people and has shown the willingness to do do this. The GOP hasn't had to contend with being called out in that way and in a post trump world they risk being
15. painted as him. I don't expect Biden to give away anything, I do expect him to paint nasty GOPers into a corner, and he has the rep and moral authority to do it. IMO, the unity talk is a trap.

Progressives & the Squad I like many of their policy positions, but they

16. suffer from two fatal flaws (with the exception of Pressley, but since the others are louder, that doesn't much matter). First, they do not know how to "read the room" and two, they do not appear to have the humility to learn. For some reason, they feel they can get their way
17 with threats and by picking fights...with Dems
! The fact that they don't realize that they need the support of other Dems to get any of their legislation passed astounds me. I'm not saying they shouldn't speak their truth, but their methods seem to be an imitation of the far

18 right tactics. While that works with the GOP b/c the GOP is only interested in getting their votes at election time, it doesn't work with the Dems. IMO more Dems can find common cause with Moderate GOPers than with the far left. Further, distancing yourself from the Squad
19 does not seem to be as politically toxic as aligning with them. While they do their thing (in all honesty, I'm not quite sure what their thing is) fellow former freshmen like Katie Porter are building solid reputations as legislators and advocates. It's unfortunate that they
20. don't see this. Come January 20 we will have Black woman VP, tons or POC and Women in leadership positions in the WH, and trump will be gone. Their newness will have worn off and trump won't be there to make them relevant. With no legislative accomplishments, who will they
be? Will they just oppose Biden? Well, good luck with that. If they consistently oppose him it may secure their reelection prospects, but it will do nothing more. They are smart and they have some good ideas, introspection will do them some good, otherwise, they will become the
political equivalents of one-hit wonders. Footnotes to the trump years. I wish better for them than that, but the key will be what they want for themselves. Share your thoughts. I liked doing thtis thread.
