Keep in mind that a significant number of people are walking around with undiagnosed chronic medical conditions, like diabetes and high blood pressure. While ACIP guidelines will prioritize them, how will they be identified if their medical problems have not been diagnosed?
The majority of the reasons they have not been diagnosed are due to barriers to accessing care, like the high cost of healthcare, inadequate or no insurance coverage, lack of availability of services, and lack of culturally responsive care.
Equity must be front and center in considering not only vaccine prioritization, but also in identifying the patients that have fallen through the cracks due to structural inequities.
