tbh the “rey didn’t care about ben, she didn’t even care he died” takes from inside and outside the ship fandom are kind of weird to me because if we’re talking about tros, none of the characters had really realistic emotional reactions?? it wasn’t just rey wrt ben
like chewie “dies” in tros and rey seems kind of anxious, not even really truly deeply grieving, about it, and finn and poe basically shrug it off and reassure her. in the meta context this is because chewie isn’t really dead and jjerrio didn’t bother fleshing out a grief scene
that would be taken back in like two scenes over. but in-universe it’s chewie apparently dying and people being like “um ok” about it. the main characters, esp poe, treat threepio like shit and threepio is still like “taking one last look at my friends” and it’s suposed to be
a really sad and profound moment of threepio sacrificing himself. rey is kind of a jerk to finn for the whole movie and the entire trio dynamic sometimes feels like they barely tolerate each other but you’re supposed to buy they’re such close friends they’re practically family
so like, pulling attention to just rey’s apparent lack of grief at the end is weird imo, especially since we know a huge reason for that effect is spliced footage from other scenes (her leaving exegol on the x-wing is actually her going to exegol) and bad, rushed editing
and i know why a lot of antis have this take, they dislike the reylo dynamic or the idea of rey truly loving or mourning a character they see as a monster makes them uncomfortable, so they use anything that could let them argue that the dynamic didn’t really exist or matter
or fans of the trio or resistance characters just care about those dynamics and are like “omg she got her boys back!!” or whatever about the hug scene even though the hug was just as out of place as every other big emotional moment in tros and not earned through their dynamics
so it’s like. all of the characters’ reactions through all of tros are just as weird to me?? like characters will be acting cold to each other but then in the next scene they’ll be crying or laughing and you’re supposed to buy into how emotional that is somehow. it doesn’t work
so if people apply the same rule they do to the last scenes wrt ben and rey’s dynamic to the rest of the movie, none of the characters give af about chewie or threepio, poe’s kind of sad about leia but rey’s moved onto “omg luke is amazing” right after sensing leia’s death
and the trio are just kind of like bickering coworkers who have a cathartic hug at the end after a traumatic experience but don’t really get along on the day to day. none of the relationships in tros work, and none of the emotions last longer than one or two scenes
