Ok so boom.... https://twitter.com/RebelleCunt/status/1334123575163428864
been on twitter since 2011, a SWer since ‘06/‘07, and involved in swers rights advocacy since ‘09
a lot of the beginning stages of sex worker discourse and advocacy talk from Black SWers on here came roughly a decade ago and some change (and grew from there)
a lot of the beginning stages of sex worker discourse and advocacy talk from Black SWers on here came roughly a decade ago and some change (and grew from there)
what I’m referring to (for those who were here and remember) are the first few waves of Black pro SWer conversation, theory, and organizing that grew in popularity at that time
I remember what it was like to find one another, I remember who was leading conversation, who produced a lot of ground work at a time where many of us were just starting to get comfy w sharing what we do for a living and utilizing this app to make money via SW services
Black SWers sharing their unique experiences opened up this space for theoretical work, paid intellectual labor, and opportunities in the form of more interviews, published writings, etc...
and then we saw others outside of SW community take credit for work that belonged to Black SWers (much more ignored and dismissed at that time than now).
The first few Black SWers I saw who invested YEARS of labor bringing pro sw convos to this app, writing articles, +

doing podcasts, providing gems and game, organizing through social media were being silenced, erased, and blacklisted
some left, some stayed, some got louder, some quiet but it created a window essentially that allowed others to step in and speak over or for us....
those who weren’t as vocal THEN or were figuring out HOW they wanted to show up in this community and in this movement +
those who weren’t as vocal THEN or were figuring out HOW they wanted to show up in this community and in this movement +
followed in their footsteps, making sure they were cited, mentioned in discussion, even confronting people and practices here that pushed them out
that next wave ADDED to their work with respect for what was given/already existed
that next wave ADDED to their work with respect for what was given/already existed
in the same way that those before us ADDED to the work that existed (much of which was offline) before them.
that first wave im speaking of provided understanding around what exactly sw is, how we navigate the industry and our communities as BLACK sex workers, and
that first wave im speaking of provided understanding around what exactly sw is, how we navigate the industry and our communities as BLACK sex workers, and
our realities. they also made sure folks understood the links between those themes and womanism, abolitionist movements, queer theory, and so on
that second wave added to this with observations around how all of this plays out in digital spaces and groundwork around what is now discussion around the term “hoe/heaux”
both focusing on sex workers rights and survival
both focusing on sex workers rights and survival
the last few years (esp since FOSTA/SESTA and other legislation) we’ve seen this group grow. we’ve seen SWer discourse happen more. and with that comes work ADDED to what existed before...
and with emphasis on online spaces and communities, after many who started this shyt (at least here) gone, we see another window where mfs can come in and stick a flag in sumn they didnt create or where mfs feel like absence means “i dont have to look into history or cite”
hello feminists, academics, and organizers with no history in sex work who have learned from SWers and used their work to curate feeds and build brands

hello newbie SWers and SWer advocates looking for immediate praise and accolades for YOUR WORK while pretending those before you and/or alongside you don’t exist cause u think you “got it covered”

so much of your language, understanding around things has been shaped by Black SWers who put in work and were/are undervalued, forgotten, and helped to create an environment where SWers rights, realities, and concerns can actually be discussed
and this goes beyond SWers rights and is true for other convo & work including but not limited to sexuality, body positivity, compensation for intellectual labor, what emotional labor is, queer identity, community care & mutual aid
I have sat on countless panels, in chats & discussions, tuned into televised interviews, read literature, peeped brands and viral posts that have literally regurgitated the work & research of elders & peers (and even myself) without stating their source
been to community events where work is being shared but not cited
and this is dangerous. this is harmful. this is stank

i wanna get into some SWer community ONLY shyt rn but i really dont know if this is the place or how to detail without having to
but I will say this: there is room for all of us, this is not a fucking race, sit with shit for a minute before getting active, and got damnit respect those before you who made THIS PARTICULAR MOMENT IN SEX WORKERS RIGHTS AND ADVOCACY POSSIBLE!!!!!
someone i think of often who is still here on twitter from this group is @BlasianBytch who was one of the few folks at that time who utilized youtube & twitter at to share themes previously mentioned https://twitter.com/RebelleCunt/status/1334144441557397512
They were also the first person I saw in convos then to mention connections between Black dommes, sex work, & ideas around erotic labor & reparations post slavery
When you praise Black SWers in online spaces for getting coin off THAT UNDERSTANDING, including adding pro heaux and pro black and feminist theory to their work, you better praise @BlasianBytch
when you clap for dommes period who make subs read feminist lit and shyt you better praise Black dommes got damn
IT WAS BLACK SEX WORKERS WHO TAUGHT YALL TO PUT YOUR FUCKING PAY APP/ACCT LINKS IN YOUR BIOS!!!!
which brings me to hashtags and online efforts...
@UNOTRLYBOUTIT was the fire behind #giveyourmoneytoblackwomen when they were in the game and u betta put some respect on his mfin name!

https://twitter.com/RebelleCunt/status/1334150752604983298

@UNOTRLYBOUTIT also provided people with a lot of gems involving “heaux/hoe” & racialized terminology in the industry
. @thotscholar has given so much understanding around “hoe/heaux” & has reworked pro heaux womanism/feminism adding to a lot of folks’ knowledge around Black SWers’ rights, concerns, and realities
@venusselenite
that’s the tweet. FOLLOW!!!!
theory and poetry and music and smut and essays and absolute magic
Xe really showed Black SWers that we could combine all our artistry in one place
that’s the tweet. FOLLOW!!!!
theory and poetry and music and smut and essays and absolute magic

you can’t discuss fashion, sex work, and aesthetics without mentioning @EXPENSIVE_HOE

Zola Moon who showed twitter wtf to do with story time and mfin thread, got a movie deal, and inspired Solange got damn
Bri M (was exotic dancer) who was one of the only real SWers outta the heaux/heaux adjacent girlies who reminded everyone of 90s-2000s heaux/heaux adjacent aesthetics, gossip, culture, etc...
and if im not mistaken was behind (hashtag)
agenda

there are tons of people inbetween and waaay more names to mention but just wanna be clear
these online communities exist because Black SWers made sure that was the case. Within or outside of community, stop fuckin playin in ppl faces

i miss peeeaacchhhh https://twitter.com/RebelleCunt/status/1334145017129148418
my point is that THIS WAS AND IS A COLLECTIVE EFFORT. NO ONE PERSON PAVED THE WAY. YOUR FAVES LEARNED FROM THEIR FAVES AND SO ON. THERE ARE MULTIPLE BLACK SEX WORKERS WHO OPENED UP SPACE HERE AND ALL DESERVE THEIR

others I wanna mention/add here https://twitter.com/rebellecunt/status/1334258067240792067
@uppittynegress also put in work for years here discussing swers’ rights, realities, decrim, etc...
like legit helped to shape convo around race and sex work and legislation in a major way here
when it comes to Black performance spaces and erotic labor i think of @jeezysjukejoint a really amazing Black burlesque revue (produced by @JeezLoueez )
