The #ReadingPA school board is meeting tonight for its annual reorganization. Selection of next president, VP and assignments to committees etc.
This is usually a quick meeting and no other business is handled.
However, that being said....
this is a normal vote meeting so the board can address any issue and take a vote on it.
Such as reinstating sports and extracurricular activities.
The board tried last month to reinstate those activities but it failed when...
Her vote was important because she most likely would have been the fifth vote to approve sports and extracurriculars to come back.
The board has voted on this matter at least four times and it may have been brought up at least every vote meeting since August.
Board member Patrica Wright was the first board member to vote against postponing sports and extracurriculars. She voted against it in August.
A few weeks later (I think) board member @detterline_RSD and Betts voted to allow things to come back.
Wright, Betts and Detterline have been voting to bring back those activities ever since.
Last week, board members Leo Martinez and Dave Myers voted to bring back activities and it looked as though it would pass.
Then Betts dropped off the meeting.
It seemed Myers and Martinez were swayed after the administration stated there was a plan to implement sports and activities safely and AD Allen McCloud said as much.
With all that being said, the agenda has not been posted yet so I don't know if this will even be taken up tonight.
However, Wright has brought a motion to bring back activities at every meeting since August so I assume tonight won't be any different
