Just to provide some context for the MANY persons who are misunderstanding or simply uneducated about the situation.

A quick thread. https://twitter.com/antiguanewsroom/status/1333939347477979137
1) The Government “writing off” LIAT’s $11m debt DOES NOT mean the Government has given LIAT $11m.

It means the Government is no longer asking LIAT to pay the $11m owed. LIAT as we all know has been in financial trouble and probably was in no position to repay the money anyway.
2) We should all know St.Kitts is heavily dependent on tourism as a source of making money. LIAT (although in shambles) is still our primary airline in the region.

During this pandemic it has been a struggle to get tourists from our major markets (USA, Canada & the UK)

—->
Therefore we have to depend more on regional tourism as a means of staying afloat.

Writing off LIAT’s debt would provide them more leeway for them to get more flights going so that we can have more tourists coming in from other Caribbean countries.
With that being said. If after reading this you still feel it was a bad decision then so be it.

But it’s important you don’t just read one headline and jump to conclusions without thinking about things a little deeper.

Have a nice day ✌🏾
