Something I’ve been thinking about for a while now. A lot of creative folk are attracted to workaholism/overwork because it can make us feel accomplished. The work is quantifiable. But overwork reduces our bandwidth to actually plan for ourselves. 1/4
We become less able to have a top-down view of our work. And we can lose actual years in the minutiae when what we needed was to step back and look at where we’re going and where we want to go. Time is a resource we can often take away from ourselves. 2/4
Since I got way more organised with my work, I’ve started scheduling phantom meetings that I use simply to think about what’s working and what isn’t, and to get a better idea of my limited resources and how I’m spending them. 3/4
I hate to admit it, but I wrecked myself physically and mentally this year through overwork, and it was always easy to convince myself that what was on my plate was more important. 2020 made that easy. I regret it, and I’m actively taking measures that I don’t repeat this. 4/4
