Some other countries are not rushing to deploy a vaccine. UKG is having to because its test, trace and isolate system has been dismal so far.
That said, vaccines are the way out of this. Indeed I may have had my jab already: taking part in the Novavax trial. That’s the one with the spike proteins.
It’s double blind, so I’ve a 50:50 chance of having got a placebo or the real deal. First shot caused no reaction, three weeks later the booster caused tenderness at the injection site. Not reading anything into that just now - dangerous to assume I’m immune.
If and when the NHS offers me another vaccine I’m likely to be permitted to take it. Then whether I got the Novavax - and whether it produced antibodies - will be revealed. It’s called “unblinding”, which has a biblical ring to it.
The NHS is looking for yet more volunteers. So if you’re not scared of needles...
