New @IpsosMORIScot Scottish Political Monitor poll out today - https://bit.ly/3qkMYyE . Headlines and a quick thread on party trust ahead of #Holyrood2021. Main take out = SNP still streets ahead. 55% constituency vote, 47% list. (1/7)
On #indyref2 – 56% Yes, 44% No after undecideds removed. A couple of percentage points down on our last @IpsosMORIScot poll (the ‘bombshell’ 58% one), but margin of error etc., so main message is Yes still clearly ahead. (2/7)
But for me the most interesting bit is the findings on trust in SNP, Tories and Labour. We asked trust to handle same set of issues effectively, for each party separately. And SNP more trusted across all the issues we asked about. (3/7)
On some issues, this is not surprising – SNP have long been most trusted to stand up for Scotland’s interests. 75% trust SNP ‘a great deal’/’quite a lot’ on this front, compared with 36% for Labour and 30% for the Tories. (4/7)
But even on issues where the SNP have taken something of a hammering from their opponents and the media, they are still more trusted. 59% trust the SNP to deal effectively with education and schools; Labour 40%; Tories 33% (5/7)
And they are ahead even on issues where their rivals might have hoped to do better– 65% trust them to tackle inequality, compared with 42% for Labour. And 59% trust the SNP to manage Scotland’s economy; 32% for the Scottish Tories (6/7)
Of course, an election campaign might change things – but these figures highlight the scale of the challenge facing the Tories and Labour – and that’s before you get into constitutional issues and leadership … END (7/7). https://bit.ly/3qkMYyE
