TWGR was founded in 1970 in New York City by Latinxs and Black people to struggle against class, racial and sexual oppression 
They got in touch with the Young Lord Party - a radical social movement that struggled for #PuertoRico self-determination, #Latinxs and colourized (âthird worldâ) people. TWGR endorsed YLPâs manifesto: âJust as Latins first slaved under Spain and the yanquis, Black people, Indians, and Asians slaved to build the wealth of this country (...)â

TWGR challenged gay movement whitening by highlighting that âThird world gays suffer an oppression which is not shared by our white sisters and brothers, one which they could never really FEEl (...)â
continues âTherefore, despite the many organization emerging in the Gay Liberation Movement, third world people havenât been able to relate to any of this. This is due to the inherent racism found in any white group with white leadership and white thinkingâ
