Nestle USA v. Doe I
Cargill, Inc v. Doe I

I watnt you to remember these case names. Because right now, in the US Supreme Court, Nestle & Cargill are being sued by former child slaves that laboured on cocoa farms on the Ivory Coast for them for aiding and abetting child slavery
The case is debating that if companies aid and abett child slavery abroad, they should be liable to be sued in US Courts for it.

The plaintiffs in the case were kidnapped and forced to work on the farms for 14 hours a day.
The Court acknowledged that Nestle and Cargill are knowingly aiding & abetting, & profiting from the use of child slavery on cocoa farms in W. Africa.

An exchange between Paul. Hoffman, the plaintiff's attorney, and "liberal" Justice Stephen Breyer ended in Breyer saying this:
"That sounds like a business. A business that does business. Blinking your eyes or open eyes with farmers and others throughout the world who use child labor. In this case, do we want a judge to say ‘you can’t do that anymore?!'." - Justice Stephen Breyer on child slavery.
Neal Katyal (Obama's former solicitor General), representing Nestle and Cargill, had one... Truly eye-opening exchange with Justice Clarence Thomas:
Thomas: 𝘐𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺?

Katyal: 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝙖𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘵𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.
Nestle plans to argue that they are not liable as a corporation for child slavery because during the Nuremberg trials, IG Farben was not charged as a company for suppling Zyklon B to the Third Reich but instead individual executives were charged.
If this doesn't show people the nature of modern capitalism, with the Supreme Court unsure over whether a company should be held liable for aiding and abetting child slavery, then I don't know what will.
