#HongKong breaking: Joshua Wong sentenced to 13.5 months in prison; Agnes Chow 10 months and Ivan Lam 7 months. #China
The three activists had pleaded guilty to their roles in a protest near #HongKong police headquarters during last year's upheaval in the city.
For #HongKong democracy activist Agnes Chow this will be her first prison sentence. She turns 24 tomorrow. Both Joshua Wong and Ivan Lam have been in prison before for their protest actions. #China
Re RTHK, 'before being escorted out of court, Wong shouted to his supporters: "I know the road ahead is tough, but I will hang in there".... "Add oil!" the crowd shouted back'. In Chinese add oil/加油 is what you call out to support your footy team struggling. Here: "stay strong"
Amnesty International: "Jailed opposition activists must be released", in response to the prison sentences handed down in #HongKong to Wong, Chow and Lam. "These three activists have been jailed in violation of their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly". #China
