Appreciation thread... I have been in tech for 25 years now and have seen the cycle of love and loathing lots. I get the issues going w/ social media right now. I appreciate instagram for food and outdoors learning, I avoid facebook, I love the connection to tech on Twitter, but
... I LOVE YouTube. yes, I work for Google now. this is not because of that. yes, I also see how it tries to show me more of the same thing at times (and, what my kids watch on my account), but let me just share things I've explored this week while working that amaze me. 2/?
I learned more about how silking meat works in chinese wok cooking. I learned how Mark Knopfler plays guitar and why he's sounded so different, but I couldn't explain it. I revisited how to clean a chainsaw carburator. I went down a rabbit hole of indonesian food. 3/?
I got to enjoy people talking about how well DK Metcalf played and how unusual that is (and saw the plays again!). I watched AWS re:Invent (AWS' version of Google Cloud Next) highlights. I re-learned how to make coddled eggs (and impressed one of my three kids). 4/?
I rejoiced seeing for the who-knows-how-many'th time Jacque Pepin making an omelette! + a bunch more. and it didn't even seem like magic, until I thought about it. I remember how great it was even before 2010 when everything was in Movie Maker (RIP?) templates. what a world! 5/5
