Seen some really great threads on how to talk about and address trans people today! So great to see the community come together and educate and share.
Comments are a bit of a mixed bag though, so here are some responses to comments that bug me.
(Disclaimer: I am cis)
"People don't talk like that in real conversations, so I'm going to keep using the language I am used to!"

People do talk like that in real conversations, you're just not a part of it!
I'm not even 30, but the way people talk about LGBT+ communities has shifted so rapidly over
my life time, and it's still evolving! It costs zero dollars to not be a wanker, and keep up with the conversation.
Things like confusion over names or which pronouns to use might take a little practice if you're new to it.
But you can see so many examples in the news today
that you can use too! "Elliot Page, you know the actor who was in Juno?"
It's simple, if you make a mistake, it is not the end of the world, simply correct yourself as you would for any other person's name.
"You remember Toby from work- sorry, Tony from work?"
"People can identify as anything these days! Why should I use *those* pronouns?"

Because they are that person's pronouns. Again, pronouns are free to use, and it costs zero extra dollars to use the correct ones.
Practice makes perfect!
"Well, CHAIR is masculine in German so my pronouns are CHAIR!"

You do you, chair! But that's not what grammatical gender is. It is entirely different.
Also, there is no such thing as "biological gender", it is a social construct. It is separate from biological sex, which
by the way, is not binary! Both biological sex and gender exist on a spectrum. There is a lot of great research on these topics and if you're struggling to understand this, I encourage you to do some reading! What's better than learning something new?
"But they played a GIRL character then! What do I say?"

There have been so many trans roles played by cis actors. How do you talk about them? You use their real-life pronouns when talking about the actor, and the character pronoun when talking about the character!
Not farmiliar?
Think of book to movie adaptions. For example the Hannibal series bases psychologist Dr Allan Bloom in the books is Dr Alana Bloom in the TV series. Freddie Lounds also appears as a female in the show while in the book, the character is male.
Talk to your LGBT+ friends, ask questions. BUT keep in mind, no one owes you any answers. Keep your questions respectful, and the answers will be respectful.
If you ask a question and someone doesn't feel like answering it, or says they don't want to answer it, they do not owe
you that education, time, or energy. Look for yourself, ask someone else. Maybe see if they would be happy to help a different time.

All in all, be respectful, practice, learn, grow, and be kind.
