Mount Kenya is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in the African continent.
9 of us made it to point Lenana last week. Lenana peak is the 3rd highest peak in Mt. Kenya
If you're ever in Kenya&you love hiking, mount Kenya should be your first stop.

1.We had been prepping to summit mt. Kenya for months. We planned to go up via Chogoria & down sirimon route.
We prepped with Ngong Hills, Longonot,Menengai Crater, Mt. Suswa & Elephant Hill.
Look. Mt Kenya isn't anyone's mate. You need to prep & acclamatize #TheJustRiobaWay

2.Another important aspect of hiking is the gear. you need to get the correct gear.
Here's a list of some of the things i needed for the hike. It was a 5 day trip. Believe me, you'll need everything here #TheJustRiobaWay

3. DAY 1
We met our porters & guides, had lunch then started our hike to Lake Ellis campsite. Yes.I know.we need new names cus who is Ellis???
I knew it was cold. But knowing is one thing, experiencing it first hand is something else.
The thermals came in handy at night

4. In the morning, it gets warmer because the sun's out. So me as me rocked an ankara dress and went to take photos by the lake.
@andreyjosephs captured these photos and most of the excellent photos in this thread #TheJustRiobaWay

5. DAY 2
We covered 10kms&18800 steps. This was a long day and i strongly believe the prep hikes helped us boost our strength. Endurance is key and these ladies took this day with so much grace

6.We broke camp by another lake with a very weird name because again, who is Michaelson surely? Mheshimiwa @tunajibu we need new names please. It's about time @kwskenya
The higher you go, the cooler it becomes. The cold
Look at this lake.Just. Look. At. HER!! #TheJustRiobaWay

7. The next morning, we went on a lake tour and of course i brought a dress. The sun had come out to play.
As per usual, @andreyjosephs was patient enough to take hundred pictures of us by the lake. #TheJustRiobaWay

8.After the lake tour, we started our hike to the next camp - shiptons camp. It was 9km, 16600 steps.
On this trek,we could now see the peaks.
Point Lenana, the 3rd highest peak was where we were headed.
We also passed by 2 tarns : Upper Simba & Lower Simba Tarns

9.i feel like i should mention that on paper, 9km or 7km may not seem like a lot but let me tell you, the terrain is far from smooth. There's some ridiculous ascents and descents.
Luckily, our pace was slow.

10. DAY 4 SUMMIT DAY.
We started ascending at 3am. It's a very steep ascent to point Lenana. It started snowing 45 mins in. Initially, it was exciting then miss snow turned into a blizzard. Ever been slapped by snow? Yaani inaingia tu kwa macho na pua bila huruma. Smh

Then we got to Harris tarn and I swear to God, it was the most incredible sight i have ever seen.
If i knew how brutal it was going to get after this , i might have changed my mind about getting to Point Lenana.

Some of us hear Lenana is the 3rd highest peak and think, ah. Just 3rd highest? It can't be that bad. No?
Try summiting the 3rd highest peak in the middle of a blizzard.
Halafu, why doesn't anyone talk about the ropes as you summit?
Scary sh*t

All 9 of us made it to Lenana peak. We did it even when we didn't believe in ourselves, thanks to the support of our guides #wediditJoe

At first, i said If i ever go back, I'd only get to shiptons. Then i changed my mind&said I'll get to Harris tarn.
Now I know i must summit again.
According to Joe, we experienced the mountain in all her glory
All I know is if anyone ever mentions snow to me,I'll fight them

After the summit, we went down via sirimon route. 14km to old Moses.
Me you can never convince me that was 14kms. It felt like 29kms

Here's the views via Sirimon route

One thing i learnt from hiking mount Kenya : i don't need to spend so much time on my phone. To that effect, i intend to reduce my screen time.
Anyway, if you and your group of friends are interested in summiting mount Kenya. Talk to @andreyjosephs.
He's your best bet.

I forgot to add that you don't have to summit to experience mt . Kenya. You can just do the lake tours
With a 4x4 you can drive up to lake Ellis then hike to lake Michaelson if you wish.
