Why Neji's death was a vital piece of his character arc (and also good writing).

(A THREAD)
First of all, there is a huge plot point from the Chunin Exams that people constantly forget. Please read these panels where Hiashi explains to Neji the true nature of Hizashi's death. Neji's dad made the choice himself to sacrifice his life.
The point of Neji's death was that just like his father he could make the choice to sacrifice himself for the people he loves and the cause he believes in. He didn't have to, he could have easily let Hinata die. The point is that he WANTED TO.
Neji's character went from resenting everything related to the main branch including innocent Hinata to wanting to give his life to protect her because he loved her as a person.
Here is the panel where he dies, notice at the bottom he says "father... I finally understand the feelings of freedom you felt". This thought fully connects it to the Hizashi plotline. All this shows that the death WAS important for Neji's character Arc.
So now, please stop the false narrative that it was a stupid death only made to advance Naruhina.
Adding this on here to explain the actual scene where he dies. https://twitter.com/konohaclover/status/1334206299265961986
