People got the idea that I can do emergency response for DV, revenge porn, divorce, and stalking cases. I’m super sorry, but that’s not my area of expertise at all. There are a lot of great folks who do, and if they would like to introduce themselves, that would be great!!
If you come to me, the only advice I will ever give is to get out of immediate physical danger, document everything that has happened in great detail, and talk immediately to a qualified expert who can help confidentially or legally.
I also unfortunately do not do any work or advising associated with suspected infidelity or divorce. I learned a long time ago it’s a huge legal, financial, and safety liability to me. Thanks for understanding. I’ll help with nearly anything else I’m qualified to in infosec.
My view of those cases as a professional centers around mere digital evidence. Even though I’m great at finding and analyzing it, what’s actually going on is not digital, and can become very dangerous for everyone.
If I can warn every young cybersecurity person of two things I wish I knew at 20 that have almost gotten me sued or dead, they are:
1) always have a lawyer
2) never touch a divorce unless it is yours or you work for a law firm
Mmm, people aren’t getting this.
It’s easy for me to say it but when you feel like 1337 hacker and your relative or friend comes to you in tears about cheating you will forget I told you. Sadly, people don’t always really want to know the truth, and both parties may turn on you.
Anyway thanks a zillion for everyone sharing DV and stalking support resources!!!!!
