If you’re reading this and you’ve been holding off starting a podcast, blog, TikTok or whatever the kids are into these days - and you’re holding back because you’re scared it’s not an original idea...
Let me offer - there are no original ideas. BUT you have a unique voice and perspective to add and there are A LOT of people on this earth.
Lots of people have gone through what you’ve gone through, but no one has experienced it the way you have. And guarantee there’s an audience out there that wants to hear from you. Your take, your learnings, your perspective.
I did @wayswework for 5 years. After that TED + Dropbox started a series called The Way We Work. I let that totally consume me and was so worried about it for so long.
I had hundreds of thousands of readers. Did they have more? Definitely. Did that matter? Not an ounce. When I started the podcast I found another called The Ways We Work and again let it bother me.
There are billions of people out there, and chances are a good chunk of them are just waiting for your perspective. Waiting to have that “omg me too” moment they didn’t know they needed.
We got invited to shadow teams at Facebook, Medium and Spotify. I interviewed so many of the people I admire most in tech and still let dumb little stuff like this consume me. In fact I know the imposter syndrome, questioning and small stuff like this distracted me.
It led to loss of focus, doubt and eventually total burnout. @wayswework might still be thriving today. Maybe it will again one day. But I share all this so you learn from me.
Just start and put your freaking blinders on. The haters will throw you off course in ways you won’t expect. People will send you similar content (maybe as a compliment cause they don’t get that it’s not or maybe to make you feel bad).
Ignore it all and focus on your goals and vision. Get feedback from your audience and people you respect/trust. Forget the rest.

I promise you we need more voices. There is so much noise, but it’s not noisy from volume - it’s noisy from: lack of diversity, lack of quality.
And chances are if you’re so worried about making something totally original and perfect from day 1 you’re probably the person who’s delivering quality content.

So get it going!
