For starters, Benny Snell was touted as a premier back straight out of high school, being recruited to Kentucky, he faced SEC level competition and didn’t back down. As a FRESHMAN, he pounded the rock down people’s throats, averaging 5.9 YPC and knocking home 13 TDs.

He continued to be prolific throughout college, going for 19 TDs his sophomore year while averaging over 5 YPC. He continued to pour it on, as it translated into his junior year which would be his last.

He was a 4th round pick for the Steelers, coming in with over 700 collegiate carries and over 45 TDs in 3 years. He has some wear on his body, no denying that, but man has been a stud since the get go.

While collegiate carries and stats don’t always translate, his 3.8 YPC in his NFL career is deceiving, as his game script hasn’t called for a lot of open plays and threats of a pass downfield. He’s shown signs of explosiveness, and can rip big chunks of yards at ease.

With Conner set to be a FA, and Pittsburgh looking ripe to be a contender for years. I believe the talent ALONE will prevail. The Steelers aren’t known for abandoning talent, especially when they haven’t seen it at full effect. His buy low window will close, and close fast.

He is set to become the starter, and with his talent and skill set, I see no reason why he can’t be a top back for your fantasy team, while it might only be a year or two. His body has to be diminished, no question, but with the volume and talent, he’ll be a top back for you.

BUT.... let’s tamper expectations on him being a bell cow for 2+ years... I see him as buy low now, and a sell high 2 years from now, as was Conner. I’m trusting in Snell to be that guy, even if it’s only a season or two, he’ll be well worth the late 2nd or early 3rd you pay.

Go buy Snell now, before he becomes the starter and starts putting the league on notice, kind of like how Derrick Henry has. He’s cheap, low risk high reward for a RB is the number one rule of becoming a dynasty, do what’s right. Buy Snell.
