I am a huge fan of journaling. Started a few years back and it is one of my most rewarding practices.

I Tweet about it quite a bit and always get follow up questions.

So...

Here is a Thread on how I Journal.

I am a tech guy and usually go digital. But my journaling is all analog. Something feels more "right" about journaling with pen and paper. https://twitter.com/mcgillmd921/status/1331749513619509252?s=20
Time of Day and Frequency

I journal at night before bed. I like to use it as a "brain dump" at the end of the day.

Get stuff out of my head. Also a great time to look back on what I am grateful for.

I journal Sun - Thurs.

Friday and Saturday I take off.
I prefer to follow a structure.

I can go a little free form. But the meat of my nightly journaling follows a "template".

I started journaling three years ago using the "Ben Franklin Virtue" journal.

Today I have my own structure I cobbled together.
How it started ... How it's going.
My current journal "template" I use:

- Gratitude - List 3 things I am grateful
- Metta- List 3 people to sent kind thoughts to
- Good - List 3 things I did well
- Opportunities - List 3 things I could have done better
- Daily Lesson - Most important lesson I learned that day
Cont...

- Re-Write the Narrative - Kind of an affirmation section. This is where I get more free form if the spirit moves me.
- Flip the page to the next day and write 3 wins for tomorrow.
- Grade the three wins when I start journaling the next evening. Did I accomplish them?
This template comes from a bunch of different sources I cobbled together:

-Ben Franklin journaling
-Stoicism
-Tim Ferriss
-Gratitude journaling
-Plus some of my own stuff
Benefits of Journaling:

-It helps me capture and inspect each day. Keeps the days from "flying by".
-Helps me sleep better by getting everything out of my head and onto paper.
-Helps me move forward on my goals.
-Keeps me on track.
-Gives me a "look back" on progress I have made
That pretty much sums up my journaling "technique"

I would love to hear how others do their journaling.

And offer any help to anyone looking to start a journaling habit.
