For Giving Tuesday I'd like to highlight a few of the charitable organizations I've chosen to support in the past year, and what their mission is.
The Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence ( @GiffordsCourage / https://giffords.org/ ) works to support gun violence reduction and good legal policy in all 50 U.S. states
Doctors Without Borders ( @MSF_USA) is providing Covid medical support and relief around the world
The Northwest Community Bail Fund ( http://www.nwcombailfund.org/ ) pays for bail for poor and marginalized populations in western Washington state.
Food Lifeline ( https://foodlifeline.org/ ) sources surplus food and repacks it for 300 food banks
KUOW - Puget Sound Public Radio ( @KUOW) - is our local NPR affiliate
We adopted our dog from PAWS ( https://www.paws.org/ ) in Seattle last month. They have experienced a drop in funding and donations during Covid.
Northwest Harvest ( https://www.northwestharvest.org/ ) supports 375 food banks in Washington
RAICES ( @RAICESTEXAS) provides immigration services for under-served populations, including working for family reunification.
Childs Play ( @CPCharity) supports childrens hospitals with toys, supplies, resources, and video game systems to let children under treatment enjoy the healing power of play
The Arts of Kenmore ( https://www.facebook.com/artsofkenmore/ ) supports community art in Seattle Eastside communities. I donate in support of Popup Storywalk, a program where stories are posted on signs in parks to encourage reading and outdoor activity.
The Covid-19 Community Relief Fund from United Way of King County ( https://www.uwkc.org/donate/ ) provides support for housing, food, and basic needs for Covid-affected groups in the Puget Sound area
DonorsChoose ( @DonorsChoose) is a nonprofit funding site for school teachers
The International Rescue Committee ( @RESCUEorg) COVID response fund provides hygiene, education, medical treatment, and food support to vulnerable populations, including refugees, around the world
The WA Food Fund through Philanthropy Northwest ( https://philanthropynw.org/wa-food-fund ) supports food pantries throughout Washington State
The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights ( https://www.theyoungcenter.org/ ) advocates for children facing deportation
The COVID-19 Response Fund via the Seattle Foundation ( @SeattleFdn) supports Seattle communities disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic
The King County Library system ( @KCLS) is our local library and has been a great resource to us during home schooling
A big shout out to @Microsoft, my employer, for matching all of these donations, and for making it easy for me to connect with these organizations with dashboarding, reporting, payroll deduction, and volunteer hour tracking.
