If you care about the Internet, free expression, and user generated content, you should be *really upset* with the latest attempt to reform #Section230 via a must-pass defense spending bill.

#Section230 is the Internet's most important law. Every single service you engage with online relies on 230 in some way. Your feelings about "big tech" completely aside for a moment, you would probably agree that your life would be significantly different w/o the Internet.
I've attended two virtual weddings; started a brand new career; finished my second year of law school; TA'd an Internet law class; connected with all sorts of online communities; met new friends and reconnected w/old friends; attended and spoke at conferences;
When I couldn't offer a hug, I cried on Zoom calls with close friends who lost loved ones this year; I mentored high school students who lost their internship opportunities to COVID-19; I assisted students who needed help w/traveling home; I got out the vote;
I wrote advocacy piece after advocacy piece about why we need to save the Internet; used Twitter to cheer on colleagues as they passed the bar; enjoyed Thanksgiving virtually with my family back home on the east coast; helped my best friend negotiate a job offer;
I used my online presence to shut down racists and to support #BLM efforts and give others a voice when they needed it the most; took online classes on how to be a better ally; stayed informed about COVID-19 health measures while my government spread lie after lie after lie;
I relied on messaging services to stay social; when I fell into bouts of depression, I reached out to those closest to me for support; when I felt especially hopeless, I bonded with strangers who felt the same way; and when I felt like giving up, I came here.
Perhaps you can relate to some or all of these online experiences.

To Congress, those experiences are nothing more than a political bargaining chip to be carelessly traded away in a defense spending bill.

Suffice to say, I'm angry and you should be to. #Protect230
