They aren’t really looking then. The pipeline isn’t the problem. It’s the criteria and comfort of the people hiring — be intentional in looking deeper than surface level for minority candidates if you really want a complete coaching search. https://twitter.com/danwolken/status/1333841321614864386
Tired of the ‘pipeline’ excuse for lack of minority coach hires. Mike Tomlin had 1 year as a DC before being named Steelers HC & youngest to win SB. Brian Flores started as a scout, never had a DC title before becoming Dolphins HC & now a COY candidate. Look deeper, if you care!
Thought I was done, but nah.
Just looking at Dolphins, there are 3 non-coordinators who IMO should get looks for HC/OC/DC jobs rn: Eric Studesville, George Godsey, Gerald Alexander.
Need help on digging deeper? I wrote about Dolphins process in October: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30008063/miami-dolphins-provide-framework-diverse-leadership-field

Don’t just take my thoughts either. My brother @TylerRickyTynes wrote about the the game within the game of minority coaches getting stuck in position coach roles then told they aren’t in the pipeline because they aren’t a coordinator or in the QB room: https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2020/10/28/21529262/nfl-black-head-coaches-game-within-the-game
Or check out this piece from my man @JimTrotter_NFL this summer and he asked 8 star players the most valuable traits in a HC. Most common answers: honesty, communication, consistency, leadership. Not very common: scheme, experience, QB-savvy. https://www.nfl.com/news/most-valuable-traits-of-an-nfl-head-coach-eight-star-players-weigh-in
