Lrts: let's talk about that some more.

Have you watched Christian movies? REALLY Christian movies? Like nobody you ever heard of is in it except that dude from Growing Pains?

Watch the disabled characters. There will be some. Notice they either get cured, or evil.
I grew up with this. I was in a bad church. Going straight to hell. You can tell cuz I'm blind. If I had God's favor, I would not be.

That's the belief. People would say God has a plan for me, over and over and over like a spell.
They didn't WANT me to suffer, but if I was suffering, I must deserve it... right?

People think disability is bad. And they think God is all powerful. And they think God is good.

Therefore, disability is a mark of evil.
The belief has spread unaware through society. Evangelicals know this is what they think. The average American has not given it a lot of conscious pondering, but the belief is there, lurking.

You're so blind. Deaf to reason. That's lame...
And the worst- someone does something evil and everyone falls all over themselves to diagnose them with some disability.

Or the arguments that things like racism belong in the DSM.

NOPE. PEOPLE DO WRONG BECAUSE THEY WANT TO.

NOT BECAUSE THEY'RE "CRAZY.*
People have disabilities because we are all different. And sometimes, shit happens.

Furthermore, people are poor because sometimes, shit happens.

Certain religions, notably Christianity but also neopaganism with unshifted paradigm, fail to grapple with life's very RANDOMNESS.
People want to believe two things: that there must be something wrong with a person when they do evil.

And that people deserve what happens to them.
The thing that is wrong with evildoers is that they're evil. They got up today and decided it was ok to hurt people, for whatever reason. That's it.
And, again, I'm sorry. Sometimes, shit happens. There is no amount of good you can do to protect yourself from harm.
So please, be careful how you talk. You, too, may someday be "lame" or blind. Or Deaf. It's not a mark of anything but the unpredictability of nature.
