So, I'm now comparing notes between the UKRI PhD phase 2 report and the NatCen research on which it's based. Couple times UKRI says that some students actually found themselves *more* productive during lockdown. Wanna know what that's based on?
This quote about total burnout.

NatCen's report goes on to say some of those who were already working from home and had quiet, comfortable places to work didn't find any change in their productivity. Well, go figure.
The more time I spend with this UKRI report the more shockingly disingenuous I find it.
Also, I think if you looked at my output (PhD & side projects) in terms of words written and reports published you'd probably say my productivity increased. Was that a trauma response to global crisis and spiralling depression that took months to recover from? Sure was, friends. https://twitter.com/elmunro/status/1333886757318881286
I mean fuck, the number of open letters I wrote alone must be about the length of a thesis...
This is how this has been translated in the UKRI report, for posterity. I haven't yet found this quote in the NatCen report but I'm not at the end of the close read yet. https://twitter.com/elmunro/status/1333886757318881286
Oh I found it and it is *not the one*, folks. Is a quote to demonstrate an exception to the dominant view that PhD researchers have seen their mental health deteriorate.
Is just the gift that keeps on giving. https://twitter.com/elmunro/status/1333912765489143808
