It’s fitting that this be my first tweet: Abolish the bar exam. Not because it’s hard—we were law students, we can handle hard. But because it’s racist, elitist, ableist, and exists as a cruel right of passage an out-of-touch profession refuses to give up.
When I found out this morning that I passed the bar exam, I was happy for approximately 3 minutes. Not because I felt validated in my belief that I’ll be a competent attorney; this test doesn’t prove that, nor did I need it to.
I was relieved that I could keep my job. That’s it. My heart goes out to those who are still awaiting results or did not receive the outcome they’d hoped for. This test reveals our profession’s weaknesses, not yours.
