The replies to this are an absolute sewer of Remainer-brain hauteur, disdain & snobbery. A well-educated bunch, generally speaking, for sure, but not necessarily more insightful bc of it. The likeliest explanation for this correlation (correct me if Im wrong) is age, no? https://twitter.com/Peston/status/1333816182248497157
Imagine if, at the start of this pandemic, when London had the highest no of infections, someone had suggested that the ppl of London had brought higher Covid rates upon themselves via sheer stupidity? Thats what many ppl in those replies are suggesting re: UKIP-voting areas.
Perhaps thats Pestonâs intention? To frame it in such a way as to invite such sneering? Possibly, but also impossible to say. I might be reading into it too much. I know I dislike the sneering. When ppl sneer at Kippers like this it reminds me of this old Rob Ford tweet.
Lets say there is a correlation between UKIP-voting areas (in 2015) & high Covid-infection-rates now? Why does that mean that such areas have necessarily brought it upon themselves? Where have all your âsystemicâ & âstructuralâ explanations of complex problems gone now?
If Farage said that there was a high rate of infections in places like Bolton, Bradford, Leicester, Luton, Blackburn, etc, bc of the ethnic mix of such places & go on to suggest that they had brought it upon themselves, that lot sneering at Kippers would go wild with indignation.
Interesting double-standard at play.
Its a dangerous game to start to play lads, the: âlets insinuate that certain groups have brought Covid upon themselvesâ game. Its a very dangerous game. Its not a game that I would play certainly. Only a fool would in truth.
Lets not play it eh?
