I've been reading the AwesomeWithoutAllah posts recently and in almost every case they've had interpersonal problems that they struggled to work through/ around and let it hold them back from living a meaningful life. I mean let's look at some of the posts themselves:
Couldn't get a PhD because you were Muslim & a woman? I'm sorry but there's nothing in Islām that's supposed to stop anyone from learning. Your cultural/ familial issues may be filtered through a religious lens but that doesn't mean the religion endorses that claim to begin with.
Don't have a good relationship with your parents because you're not practising Islām? I'm sorry but it doesn't matter what creed or color or country you come from, not listening to your parents will always result in conflict. They will still disagree with you as a non-Muslim.
Couldn't eat bacon and drink alcohol as a Muslim? I'm sorry you were so oppressed, if the only reason your life has meaning is because of a drink and a piece of meat then this has less to do with religion and more to do with your desire to fit in and control yourself.
I'm #AwesomeWithAllah because I recognize we are all human and our experiences contribute to who we become, but I also know that I share the responsibility in filtering what's within my sphere of control and what's outside of it. Make. The. Distinction.
