Our laws exist within an international set of traditions, agreements, norms, treaties. Theyre shaped by events, tech, companies, activism, that recognise no borders. MPs can in theory ban cars, order Netflix to re-write the Crown, revoke US independence but in reality they cant

Our money. Mate. Smaug isn’t sitting on a pile of treasure. In a (near) impregnable mountain. Money flows through, in and out of our country. Foreign investment last year was £1.5trillion, while the stock of UK investments abroad is well over £10 trillion.
Our fish. Beyond the obvious idiocy of fish being British, we export 75% of our catch to other countries, who, while we're at it, pay us money, on the basis of a mutual acceptance of relevant laws.

Think about your own life. Sure, we decide what we want to do, but in a fantastically complex world of physical, societal & economic constraints, not to mention the overlapping choices of everyone else. Nationalism gives good twitter, but it is a miasma of Trumpy crap.
